Homes created in The Forest are enveloped in lush, coastal greens of salal, ferns and lichen. The trees are big, the roads are narrow and a rural, community character are immediately evident. Located within the coastal rainforest, homes built in the Forest will be illuminated by the thoughtful placement of light corridors. Houses come to The Forest but nothing else changes; the deer trails and nesting trees are protected in perpetuity

See this on the mapBlended with the wild surroundings, homes at Evergreen are architecturally designed to be beautiful and efficient. By building with the natural surroundings at front of mind, real homes and true community can flourish. By implementing sound design and advanced technology, dependence on standard energy sources are dramatically reduced and water and light resources are maximized. The homes are nestled, yet connected to Bowen’s greenways that stitch the island together
Homes at Evergreen adhere to forward-thinking design guidelines. Through architectural craftsmanship, sensitivity to existing natural settings and the enhancement of available views, the guidelines protect value for all property owners. Without prescribing any particular style, the guidelines promote stylistic coherence and faithfulness to each project’s unique contribution. Working within 2,500 square feet; the creative application of space, materials, architectural detail and efficiency will ensure that the Evergreen community is complemented and enhanced
Blending technological knowledge with an awareness of history, development at Evergreen has been achieved through respect and foresight. Strategic tree removal has taken place to enhance light corridors and viewscapes. Preventative thinning has been undertaken to reduce wind-throw. Groundwater retention patterns have been retained and each new home will incorporate groundwater recharging systems through treated effluent and the storm water retention pond. Evergreen has been constructed with community and history in mind.

See this on the mapEven after all available Evergreen lots have been built upon, the majority of the total landscape will be preserved as wilderness and parkland. The vast majority of rock bluffs, meadows, groves of native trees, the clean air loving lichen; the deer trails and the meandering creeks are secure and will never be developed. These are the legacies of Evergreen. The land and its native dynamic will remain unchanged and cherished for generations to come and the land is connected to existing Bowen Island parks and trails.
Community cannot be created but it can be nurtured. Evergreen is nurturing a community with purpose and is promoting balance and a quality of life. At Evergreen you have the opportunity to find a place of your own. It is a place to gather, a place to celebrate and a place to be still. Evergreen can be your way home.

“Evergreen is the quintessential west coast experience. As someone born to this coast, I have a deep appreciation for the rugged landscape in all its formations. Add spectacular skies/sunsets and expansive views of an ever-changing ocean, the giant iconic Fir in the distance, and you have an experience quite unlike any other I’ve discovered on the island. I hope it attracts people who share a deep appreciation of the natural beauty of the place and want a friendly and considerate relationship with the land and with their neighbours.” – Wynn Nielson, homeowner at Evergreen

“You really have to see it to believe it! The view and the peace of property feels right. We have always wanted to live in a home where we could see the end of the day and see the sun go down. We wanted tranquility, to slow down and to live a balanced life in a home in a natural surrounding. Evergreen is different – it’s unpretentious, natural, beautiful, and it’s special. We cannot wait to live there and look forward to others joining us!” – Thomas & Caroline, owners at Evergreen.

Evergreen has been created and developed by Bowen Islanders John Reid and Andrew Beaird. For more information and a personal tour, contact John directly.

John Reid has been developing exclusively on Bowen Island for the past 15 years. He moved to Bowen in 1993 with his family and has worked hard to develop in a style that not only respects Bowen Islands Official Community Plan, but also builds upon greenway connections that will stitch the natural spaces of the island together and protect them from the future pressures of incremental development. To date his projects have collectively dedicated over 100 acres of public parkland and many kilometers of public trails. His notable Bowen Island projects include Quarry Park, Headwaters Park, Malkin Creek and Evergreen.

Andrew Beaird is a trained land use planner with broad experience in both municipal planning and private development services. He has spent the last six years in British Columbia managing a private practice and completing graduate work at UBC, with a concentration in the field of urban and community design. He is conversant with Smart Growth, Conservation Subdivision, Ecological Urbanism, New Urbanism, Rural Design, New Ruralism and LEED®-based neighbourhood planning approaches. Based on Bowen Island, Andrew is the principal of EABB Planning Services and collaborates with regionally and internationally recognized planning and design firms. His current work is focused within unique and distinctly rural, resort and coastal contexts.
